The Ijaw Youths Network (IYN) has praised the Department of State Services (DSS) for intercepting 57 AK-47 rifles and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in Delta State, and for arresting a UK-based Nigerian Army Major linked to the smuggling operation. The group emphasized that this action strengthened public confidence in the DSS and prevented potential ethnic violence in Warri. IYN leaders called for a thorough investigation and prosecution of all individuals involved, urging peaceful dialogue over ethnic or political tensions. The IYN also appealed to the British High Commission to urgently address the UK Major’s role, asserting that his involvement tarnishes the image of the British military. Additionally, civil society organizations joined the call, urging UK-Nigeria cooperation in investigating the incident, stressing its threat to national security.
