West African Regional Training for Journalists on African Governance Architecture (AGA) and African Charter on Democracy, Election and Governance (ACDEG)

The West African Civil Society Forum (WACSOF) has trained over 20 Journalists from Five (5) West African Countries on the African Governance Architecture (AGA).

The training which was held in Abuja on the 5th of April 2018 drew its participants from Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Cote D’Ivoire and Togo.At vero eos et accusam

The aim of the training was to equip participants with the required skills to develop plans that will improve coverage, and increase information, knowledge and awareness of the African Governance Architecture (AGA) and African Charter on Democracy, Election and Governance (ACDEG).

It was expected that at the end of the training, media organizations would become actively involved in creating news, reports, talk-shows and interview that focuses on promoting Democracy, Election and Governance and in the long term this will lead to increased awareness of the AGA and ACDEG therefore lead to increase in the demand for the implementation of the AGA and ACDEG.

The facilitator, Mr. Faruk Ibrahim Senior Program Officer, Youth Initiative for Advocacy Growth and Advancement (YIAGA), elaborated on content formation for the popularization of AGA and ACDEG at the regional level which includes News and News Analysis, radio/TV current affairs programmes such as segments in magazines, Talk Show inserts, interviews, panel discussion, and documentaries.

The Participants made solemn commitment to create more awareness on AGA and ACDEG through their platforms as well as link their political reports to AGA and ACDEG.

Report on West African Regional Training for Youth on African Governance Architecture

The West African Civil Society Forum (WACSOF) organised a 2 day training on African Governance Architecture for West African Youths. The training which was held on 6th and 7th April in Abuja, Nigeria was aimed at developing the potential of young people as drivers of change, raise their awareness and foster their understanding and engagement with the ACDEG.

The Training was also targeted at creating a youth movement actively involved in local and national awareness raising, mobilization and campaign activities focused on demanding for the implementation of the AGA and ACDEG.

Youth Leaders who participated at the event pledged to take the training down to their various countries for other youths to benefit from. They also promised to create more awareness on AGA and ACDEG.

Two Youth Groups that participated at the Training have carried out step down trainings. YALI Network Abuja had a training on the 14th of April, 2018 for its members and 61 youths were in attendance. Activista also had a Youth Training on 28th April 2018, and 54 youths were in attendance. These step-down trainings also led to the increase in awareness and number of CSOs advocating for the implementation of the AGA and ACDEG.

28 Youth Leaders (11 Females and 17 Males) that benefited from the training were drawn from five West African countries which includes Nigeria, Ghana, Côte D’Ivoire, Liberia and Benin.
