Niger’s military government has released about 50 individuals who were detained
following the July 2023 coup. The released include former ministers, political
figures, a journalist, and military officers previously convicted of attempted coups.
The decision aligns with recommendations from national consultations held in
February 2025. Notably, ousted President Mohamed Bazoum remains in detention
without a trial date. The junta has not indicated whether further releases are
planned.
